Hier die offizielle Freigabe: Rated R For pervasive strong sadistic brutal violence, rape and torture, nudity and language.

AW: REMAKE: I Spit On Your Grave

So yesterday I was perusing facebook and saw my friend post that he had tickets to the first screening of I Spit On Your Grave remake for today and had no one to go with. Of course I immediately texted him and forced him to bring me today. I noticed within the first ten minutes of taking our seats that the original director, Meir Zarchi was in attendance along with the director of the new film, Steven R Monroe. Steven was actually seated in the same aisle as myself. I thought it was very cool that everyone involved had come out to see the first test screening which is usually not the case.

Now since this is a screening and technically I can't use it for review purposes I'm not going to give alot of spoilers. But I don't feel too guilty writing it since this is a positive review and the fact that it's pretty damn close to the original if you've seen that film, you fucking know what's going to happen.

Official Plot Summary: Writer Jennifer Hills (Butler) takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

First thing I need to say is that this film is shot exquisitely. The shots are beyond beautiful and even though the color tones are different than the original (much to today's color correction standards) the shots are very reminiscent of Zarchi's vision from 1978. I think this says alot about Steven R Monroe and his integrity to make a great remake in a world of really fucking shitty ones. This film was made with a limited budget and shot on location in Louisiana (thanks to the person who corrected me!).

The entire cast really pulled some excellent performances. Specifically the star, Sarah Butler. Butler takes on the role of Jennifer Hills with a full throttle, straight up bravery. For a young and up and coming actress this role could be life or death to her career but she handles it with grace and strength that I don't think Hollywood will dare to fuck with. Her performance feels real and being the only female lead she outshines the male actors a million to one. And yes.. she's naked. Full frontal, back, etc. You see it all. I know I'll get asked this so just putting it in here for all you pervy "I just hope they keep the integrity of the original" boys out there.

ISOYG 2010 follows the original story line quite well with a few parts I would have like to see brought back or a new version of them. Between the rape and the revenge we see little to no Jennifer Hills where in the original she puts back together her book, makes her peace with God and then unleashes her wrath. I would really like to know what was going through her head in the month that she is missing and presumed dead. It's a hard transition to go from Victim to Torturous blood thirsty killer. My only other gripe is Daniel Franzese. I think he could have actually dumbed down his character a bit more and at times seems to drop his accent. Also most of the people around me were distracted by trying to figure out who he was (too-gay-to-function guy in Mean Girls). Not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

The violence and gore were top notch and just fucking creative. I'm not giving this shit away for you and I know I'll get 90 emails asking for details but fuck.. that's what opening night is for. You'll have something to be stoked about. The make up crew did an AMAZING job. You will all get your ten bucks worth for great kills. Jennifer is a fucking bad ass. I will tell you that this film doesn't follow the overly sexual kills as the original did which i think is a bit more realistic. I mean what rape victim is going to get naked with her attacker? Highly unlikely (But fuck it was awesome in the OG). These are down and dirty, harder than Hostel kills. Be prepared for some shit that will have you standing in your seats clapping and cheering.

The rape scenes vary from the original but a few shots are exact replicas and the lighting is fucking dead on... I mean who cares about lighting in a rape scene?? I do.. fuck I guess that makes me weird. The rape is VERY graphic and you definitely get more of a sense of what's going on than in the original film.. aka anal, oral, etc etc.

I gotta say this. I remember seeing the original film just as clear as if I saw it yesterday. Being a victim of rape myself, it was a hard fucking movie to watch. But as much as ISOYG is classified as a "sexploitation" it is also a film about female empowerment. People fail to see that overall this is a feminist film. The gratification that any woman can feel when Jennifer Hills single handedly takes down her assailants and takes back the power and self esteem that was taken from her is mind blowing. Whether you are a victim of sex crimes or whether you have a fears of something like this happening (we all do) this film will feel good. I don't give a fuck what anyone else says. Both of these films should be celebrated and not looked upon as deprave or exploitive.

Overall, I think Steven R Monroe should be proud of the film that he has made and I really hope the integrity of the film won't get fucked by the MPAA. This is a solid horror flick and a great homage to it's inspiration. The cast and crew really put themselves out there with this project and I really hope all of you will go out and see it this fall. This is the only remake that I will probably ever tell you to support.
