Liam Gallagher has said he wants Johnny Depp to star in the Beatles biopic he's producing in partnership with Revolution Films.

As previously reported by Spinner, Gallagher announced the project, based on Richard DiLello's 1972 book 'The Longest Cocktail Party: An Insider's Diary of the Beatles, Their Million Dollar Apple Empire and Its Wild Rise and Fall,' at last year's Cannes Film Festival.

Now Gallagher has revealed that he hopes to persuade Depp, with whom he became acquainted during the Britpop heyday, to take on the role of Beatles publicist Derek Taylor.

Speaking to Q (via Contactmusic), Gallagher said, "Derek Taylor was a dude. He's up there with Lennon. The film script is done. It's gonna blow people's minds, man. I'm just waiting to find out when we choose the actors. I want Johnny Depp to play Derek Taylor. It's got Johnny Depp written all over it, man."

The film will chart the Beatles' career, with a special emphasis on life at Apple Corps, from their 1967 heyday until their demise in 1970.
